Utah – Pheasant Upswing Continues

utah forecast

Forecast: Pheasant hunting continues its upswing in Utah, as the number of hunters was up 1,000 to 18,000 last year, and those hunters managed to put 40,300 birds in their bags. The good news for those hunters is that 2011 is shaping up to be another good season.

An extremely wet spring aided grass growth and helped pheasant production, according to Jason Robinson, Upland Game Project Leader with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. While Utah’s diverse landscape is home to many upland birds, Robinson says the northern half of the state is where to look for pheasants, and that hunters will want to key in on the state’s wildlife management areas.

Season Dates: November 5 through 20 (extended in some counties, see regulations)
Daily Bag Limit: 2
Possession Limit: 3 (note, up from 2)
Field Notes: Utah's Walk-in-Access program is growing rapidly throughout the state, and be sure to check the website for new properties, as new ones are being added regularly.
